CalendarPeople do not remember all 365 days of the year. But most people remember special days or anniversaries. A Sunday which is normal to me might be a special day to someone else. A specific day such as October 12 was a special day to me, but it could be a meaningless  common day to others, when they did not remember what happened and what they ate on that day.

We look forward to a special day to us and when the day comes, we spend that day in a special way with our loved ones. Also, there is a special day to God. He wants to spend that day with His children. It’s the Sabbath day.

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath [a day of rest] to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested [didn’t work] on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.” (Exodus 20:8-11)

The Sabbath day is a memorial day to God and He values this day above everything. Therefore, God said, “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” Why is this day so special?

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done [he rested from all his work which God had created and made]. (Genesis 2:1-3)

“Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you [the people of God] for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy…” (Exodus 31:13)

The Sabbath day is a day for celebrating God who created the heavens and the earth. In other words, the Sabbath day is the day when we acknowledge that God is the only Creator who created the heavens and the earth and everything in them. God said, “The Sabbath day will be a sign” and He “blessed the seventh day and made it holy” because He values this day highly.

Which day of the week is the Sabbath day when God wanted to be with His people? As you know from Genesis 2, God created the heavens and the earth for six days and rested on the seventh day. The seventh day is the Sabbath. The seventh day is Saturday in our current calendar system. That is, Saturday is the Sabbath day.

Most people cherish a day their loved ones treasure. They want to remember it and keep it together. Those who love God are sure to remember the Sabbath day by keeping it.

The World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) observes the seventh day Sabbath according to the teachings of Jesus. The WMSCOG celebrates the Sabbath day of the New Covenant, not the Sabbath of the Old Covenant. Jesus showed an example by keeping the Sabbath day, as was His custom, in spirit and in truth (Luke 4:26; John 4:24.) The disciples and apostles also kept the Sabbath day. Some claim that the Sabbath day was abolished after Jesus’ Crucifixion, but it’s not true because the Apostle Paul also kept the Sabbath day, as was his custom (Acts 17:2; Acts 18:4.) Please refer to this page for the differences between the Sabbath day of the Old Testament and the Sabbath day of the New Testament.
