Those who have not bowed to the knee to Baal_2The Bible prophesies that only the remnant will be saved although the number of those who believe in God be like the sand by the sea.

Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the Israelites [the children of Israel] be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved. For the Lord will carry out his sentence on earth with speed and finality.” (Romans 9:27-28)

Who are the remnant? The Apostle Paul likened the remnant to seven thousand who did not bow the knee to Baal in the time of Elijah.

God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew. Don’t you know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah–how he appealed to God against Israel: “Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I [Elijah] am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me”? And what was God’s answer to him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. (Romans 11:2-5)

We can understand who are the remnant that will be saved by studying the history of the time of Elijah.

Ahab son of Omri did more evil in the eyes of the LORD than any of those before him. He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal [a pagan god] and worship him. He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he built in Samaria. Ahab also made an Asherah pole and did more to provoke the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger than did all the kings of Israel before him. (1 Kings 16:30-33)

In the time of Elijah, idolatry was rampant: the Israelites worshiped the idols such as Baal and Asherah by the influence of Ahab and Jezebel.

So Ahab sent word throughout all Israel and assembled the prophets [the prophets of Baal and Asherah] on Mount Carmel. Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing. (1 Kings 18:20-21)

The Israelites, who were supposed to follow God Jehovah without a doubt, were so stupefied that they could say nothing to the question of Elijah and wavered between the Lord and Baal.

Yet I [the LORD] reserve seven thousand in Israel–all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and all whose mouths have not kissed him. (1 Kings 19:18)

Only seven thousand among the people of Israel did not bow down to Baal. The Apostle Paul interpreted this history as a prophecy which will take place in the last days.

Actually, just as idolatry of Baal and Asherah blinded the minds of the Israelites who had believed in God in the time of Elijah, so people do not know whether they are worshiping God or sun-god today because sun-god worship ceremonies have deeply penetrated into churches. For example, Sunday is the worship day of sun-god and Christmas originated from a pagan festival for celebrating the birth of sun-god. However, there were seven thousand who did not bow the knee to Baal. Likewise, there are those who worship only God in this age, even though the whole world participate in sun-god worship ceremonies.

Then the dragon [Satan] was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring–those who obey God’s commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.  (Revelation 22:17)

Though there are countless churches like the sand by the sea around the world, the church that denies idolatry and observes God’s commandments becomes the remnant. The World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) is the only church that obeys and follows God’s commandments including the Sabbath day, the Day of the Creator, and the Passover of the New Covenant.

Most churches stress the importance of faith only. They say that they can be saved while they have faith. However, the Bible says that we should obey God’s commandments and also have faith. The World Mission Society Church of God observes God’s commandments such as the Passover of the New Covenant established by Jesus and believes in Christ Ahnsahnghong as the Second Coming Jesus according to the Bible.
